- Understand proper trail etiquette – Even if your dog is friendly, other hikers might not want them running up to them or their pets. Many parks require dogs to be on a leash, but even in off-leash areas, make sure your dog is well-trained and responds reliably to commands.
- Stay up to date with vaccinations – Make sure your dog’s vaccinations are current. This protects them not only when interacting with other dogs but also when exploring wooded areas where they might encounter wildlife, including insects.
