8 Great Winter Activities for Your Pet in Southwest Ohio

winter activities for your pet

If you’re currently living in southwest Ohio, there’s no doubt that you’ve noticed the temperatures starting to drop. Whether you love the colder weather or dream of the next seventy-degree day throughout the winter months, we’ve put together some ideas on how you and your pet can make the most of your time together during the winter season.

Winter Activities for the Outdoorsy and Adventurous Duos

There’s no reason why the colder weather should prevent you from making memories with your pup. In fact, the holidays are a great time to treat your dog to some outdoor, festive activities that may not exist all year round!

Cincinnati’s Annual Santa Con

If your dog is into meeting new people and doesn’t mind dressing for the occasion, Cincinnati hosts a huge SantaCon charity event each year that is just about as festive as it gets. The only catch is… you must dress like Santa. Weather permitting of course, this is a great opportunity to explore the city with your pup while getting a dose of holiday cheer. Check out the event’s website for more event information!

Holiday 5k, 10k, or 13.1 Cheer!

If you and your pup like to enjoy nice, long runs together, signing up for an organized holiday run might just be your cup of hot cocoa! There are several events to choose from throughout December scattered across southern Ohio. For a full list of races visit RunGuide’s website. Participation from furry friends may vary or require special registration. Also, be sure to prepare your pup for the challenge by training with them and following these running tips.

Fetch at the Park… Snowball Edition

Something as simple as creating a magical ball of snow right before your dog’s eyes is enough to get their tails wagging. Trading in the tennis ball for a snowball is a fun and easy way to help your dog enjoy the change in weather. Some of our favorite dog-friendly parks in southern Ohio include:

  • Otto Armleder Dog Park
  • Airy Dog Park
  • Fido Field
  • Westwoof Dog Park
  • Newport Dog Park
  • Washington Park and many more!

For Those Interested in More Cozy (Indoor) Options

Bake Some Holiday-Inspired Dog Treats

Spoil your pup with some delicious holiday dog treats this winter season! Not only will they be able to enjoy a tasty treat made with love, but including them in the baking process is half the fun. We love watching @threepupperteers on Tiktok try new recipes with her canine pal. You can also get some inspiration from our DIY holiday dog treats blog post.

Take a Trip to an Indoor Dog Park

A great way to spend time with your pup during the colder months while they socialize with other dogs is by taking them to one of the many indoor dog parks surrounding Cincinnati! Additionally, many breweries and restaurants also allow pets in certain areas indoors. Check out this helpful list to see where your pet can join in on the festivities.

Snuggle Up for a Holiday Movie

We recommend saving this one for a snowy evening to get the full holiday effect. Get yourself and your pup a cozy blanket, make some dog-approved treats and pick out your favorite holiday film for an unfurgettable night!

Drop off Your Pup at Daycare While You Get in That Last Bit of Christmas Shopping

If it were up to us, we’d bring our precious pups with us everywhere, but for those days when you need to get some errands done and they can’t join, consider treating them to doggy daycare! Our canine guests receive hours of playtime and all the attention they could possibly want from our adoring staff. Reserve your spot ahead of time at our Pet Palace Resort location in West Chester, Ohio!

Road Trip to the Pet Store for New Toys n’ Treats!

Need some stocking stuffers for you dog this holiday? Check out a local pet store in your area for all the best treats and toys. We love Jungle Jim’s, located in Fairfield, Ohio, which has a pet section that could make up an entirely separate store!

Keep Your Pets Safe, Healthy, and Happy This Winter!

By trying new activities with your pup, nourishing them with healthy foods, and making sure they get plenty of love and exercise, you will have no problems keeping them satisfied through the colder months. And if you need any help from an experienced and pet-loving team, reach out to Pet Palace!
